Our History

Our credentials as green warriors go back way before environmental sustainability became a buzzword.

We started operations in 1968 when the large German group, Benckiser, opened a plant on the site of the old Waverley blanket factory that was established in 1875 on the outskirts of Wolseley.

They produced tartaric acid for the German market from filter cakes sourced from the Cape wine industry.

We have continued to play a critical role in agricultural processing for the South African wine industry ever since, processing winemaking residuals and converting them into a range of value positive products.

We will give back more than we take.

What We Believe

We are resolved to build on our credentials as byproduct processors, by transforming winemaking residuals into value positive products.

Our purpose is to turn problems into opportunities, measurably contributing to agricultural sustainability by transforming tons of byproduct into shared wealth.

We achieve our purpose by helping farmers and other agri processors turn problems into opportunities; by empowering our people to make a valuable contribution to family, community and Brenn-o-Kem; and by showing our deep respect for the earth by enhancing its natural ability to nurture life.

We work hard to show we CARE:

  • the confidence to not only think big, but bigger;
  • our accountability to ourselves, each other and our promises,
  • respect for ourselves, each other and the land;
  • and the excellence of our service and the quality of our products.

We will waste not so that we want not.
